Here it is...

But I've also heard a rumor that there is another Devil's Lake guidebook on the way from Wolverine Publishing (the same company who publishes the current Red River Gorge guide).

I've sent an e-mail to Wolverine Publishing to see if they would confirm or deny this.

Ouch! Ice in the face after leading Quarry Monster (WI4)

Wolverine is publishing a new Devils Lake guide. Met the guy who is putting it all together and he showed me all of his notes, etc. for the upcoming guidebook.

I asked when to expect it and he said "Soon".

Though it seems it won't be as in-depth as Swartling/Mayer, but focused on the main areas and primary standards.

Hope this helps...

The Wolverine guide will be pretty cool...although it reportedly won't detail every eliminate route at the lake (too many IMO) the layout and descriptions promise to be much easier to read and more informative.
I'm looking forward to the book.

I heard back from Wolverine this morning. They are working on a Devil's Lake guidebook. It should be out in the spring.

Sticking the crux.

I heard from Wolverine this morning, and the new guide is due Fall of 09. The author is Chris Gambill from Chicago.

I think I ran in Chris on the east about a month or so ago. He was asking for my opinion on some climbs and stated that he was only allowed one 4 star rating in the new book and only like two 3 stars. I though that was pretty lame. I will be getting the new Swartling/Mayer book.

Well, I guess it won't be Fall 09 for the Wolverine guide. Based on this website, it might be a while. Not sure if this is the same dude or even if this website is being updated at all. Anyone know what/where this boulder is?

Here you go Chris. I've never tried the problem but I remember looking at the boulder a couple times.

Not me- been there, done that. But you are more than welcome to steal shamelessly from the original if you like.

If it's like the RRG guide, let's hope the book includes many interviews and tidbits of climbing history other than the CMC version of life at the lake. Any 'clubbers been approached for personal interviews and scandelous stories for publication? (saved for Extremist's Guide-A Suckers revision?)

'Noob!! I'm sure you jest. But then again, the Father of Bouldering, John Gill sure did alot of highball death routes here, and in some funky shoes or rugged boots too.

The boulder is the Nipple up at the Old Sandstone Area. Don't use my website as an indicator of progress. I haven't uploaded anything there for a few years. The book has turned out to be a pretty daunting task, but it's coming along well. I'm really hoping to finish it up early this summer.

Any news on the ETA on the new guidebook?
