Trad climbing at Shelf

Clearly Eldo will be closed for awhile. Does anyone know if the approach to Mickey Mouse Wall is feasible right now?

Heading up the best pitches of the route. Perfect rock at a nice relaxed angle!

I was thinking about this as well. Unfortunately I believe the only options right now are-

-Hike in via the established trails from Eldo/Flatirons, which are closed and you would be considered trespassing.
-Hike in from the tracks, starting around Plainview. This is also a poor approach as you are considered trespassing, it is quite a hike, and you will be dodging trains and other vehicles through multiple tunnels.

Anybody have any better ideas? I've been wanting to get up there for a while now, and with the weather getting nice and cool, it's even more tempting!

It's not just the approaches that are closed. Mickey Mouse Wall itself is OSMP property, so it's closed as well.

BTW it looks like the railway tracks have been washed out N of Plainview. So at least for now you don't have to worry about being run over if you try to sneak through the tunnel.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a possibility when Boulder OSMP is open again. Hopefully that happens before the end of October.

All City of Boulder - Open Space and Mtn Parks lands (OSMP) are closed until further notice. This includes the Flatirons, Mickey Mouse Wall, Mt Sanitas, Flagstaff, Elephant Buttresses, etc.

OSMP Staff are in the field assessing conditions and safety concerns. Lands and structures (bridges) have suffered significant damage. After prioritizing needs OSMP will welcome volunteer help with cleaning-up and trail repairs. We're hoping the climbing community shows-up in strong numbers to lend a hand. The FCC will keep the community posted on volunteer projects and re-openings.

I've seen a picture online that I think may be the tracks at the bottom of MM Wall. If that picture is where I'm thinking, even if rest of the approach is okay, the last section up to and including the tracks would be horrendously dangerous.

If you take the route through the tunnels, I would be very concerned about sections of the train tracks being gone, with highly unstable and steep terrain left in its place. In the picture below, the entire bed where the tracks previously lay has been blasted off the side of the mountain by water.

Could be wrong but I am thinking that picture is Dowdy Draw (Bull Gulch?) where it goes up near the West Bank. (That's maybe halfway down the tracks toward Mickey Mouse.)

Dowdy Draw turned into a monstrous flow as you can see when driving into Eldo. From what I have heard from Eldo residents it was 3' deep and 100' yards wide.
