Maybe we need a Dead Horse Forum or Classic FAQ for frequent topics

Life lately has taken a turn for the busier so I haven't been on MP much. But when I find time to click this direction, certain familiar threads make it feel like I never left. One reaction to some of the classic topics is "Oh, not again!" But another is surprise that folks may not realize something has been discussed ad nauseam, ad infinitum.

So how about it Team Andy? Maybe a Dead Horse Forum with links to perennial favorites.

My nominations for the category:

Solo top roping.

Solo leading. (I've offended here myself...)

Aliens: salvation or death wish?

Other suggestions?

Or maybe it's futile. It is more satisfying and affirming to converse with your peers than to do library research in the archives...

It's a good idea... though I'd want to limit it to actually useful threads (like some you have indicated).

Short of building a new feature, an easy solution is:

  • Create a sticky thread "Best Of " in each appropriate forum (Big Wall, General Climbing, etc.)
  • As threads get nominated, I'll add them to the list in the "BEST OF WHATEVER" sticky thread

How about a page or forum for stuff that has nothing to do with climbing or MP such as politics? Man I hate talking about politics!

P.S. I still think MP is a solid site though. Thanks for building the ultimate in distractions/procrastination aid.

Andy, your solution sounds good but maybe one sticky thread in General with the title of Frequently Asked Questions with a permanent link to it in each of the sub-forums (and a place above right after the Forum link). A topic only admins can edit and add to.

You missed some of my favorites:

Some one stole my draws from XXXXXXX (sick project).

What kind of rack should I buy?

Camping at Red Rocks?

How the heck does that gimp have a Harem?

Clay, it is called Community Forum

As usual I have added no positive solutions, just spray.

How about refining and encouraging the use of the search function?

+ 1. Love this site, but unless I actually post in a thread, I can never find it again. The search capabilities could uses a little refining or tweak.

+10 for:
Someone stole my draws
What kind of rack should I buy
Aliens
Does anyone still use hexes
Somebody did this...and it pissed me off

Agreed. Plus you should maybe move a few of the "Best of" threads into the appropriate categories. A lot of random stuff ends up in General Climbing that should be in other forum sub-categories.

I have also seen "Hall-of-Fame" forum categories where the best threads end-up for easy reference and only Admins can move them there.

Example: tetongravity.com/forums/for…
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
