Description

Air Blast is certainly a Farley classic. It's steep, sustained and has a great sequence the whole way up. The crux for most people is in the opening moves but once you've clipped the second bolt it's big moves on jugs the whole way. When you reach a rest (sort of) about 3 ft. below the roof, start traversing right on great holds until you can pull yourself around the arete onto the face that points towards the road. The climb finishes just above that move and slightly left. Be warned that beginning leaders might find the end moves a little scary since the terrain is overhanging and, once past the arete, a fall would probably not be good (until the next clip, that is). Enjoy!

Location

Once you've found your way to the Bat cave, continue through the triangular opening (directions to this point described on the Bat Cave main page) and descend (in near darkness) for about twenty yards until you're under the huge roof and have a view to your left. Basically just follow the daylight. At this point (after ogling, or climbing if you're up to it, the bolted project that climbs out the 50 ft roof lengthwise on crimpy holds (projected grade 5.14d/15a but no one really knows)) turn left and keep going down hill. After a very short distance you'll come to a drop off into pretty dense brush. The line of bolts immediately to your left is Air Blast. You'll know you've reached the right spot because it turns the big roof finishing out of sight to your left (or straight ahead if you're facing the cliff).
