| my rope (new england apex 10.5x60m) does not have a mid mark. I'm not sure if and form of paint, sharpie ink, etc would damage the integrity of the rope. What is the best way to mark it without damaging it? | FLAG |

| I use a sharpie. It wears off fairly quickly but it's good enough for me. I'm pretty sure if you search the forums here you'll find all the options discussed. | FLAG |

| Use a sharpie. Bluewater ropes has a thing on their site that says to use the laundry sharpie, the ones that say "rub-a-dub" or something. Black diamond did some quick testing that's posted on their site and didn't see any change, ropes still failed at the knot. I've used a regular sharpie on both my ropes and it works fine. Wears off after a while so you'll have to redo it in a few months. | FLAG |

| The gear shop in which I work, sells rub-a-dub sharpies as a way to mark the middle of the rope- apparently the fabric specific sharpie is a safe way to go. | FLAG |

| I have one rope I threaded dental floss through the sheath like in Tristan's link. My other rope is unmarked. It doesn't bother me not having the middle marked anymore. | FLAG |

| 2 thin peices of climbing tape around the middle works for a little while and it gives you some peace of mind and u can feel it in the dark but it tends to run through the atc kinda crappy | FLAG |

| I make the mark at least 4" long along the rope. That way, less likely to miss it. Way back in the day, I saw some of the bi-color ropes exhibited weird shifts in the mantle after several rappels. Thusly, I have avoided those ropes. Anyone seeing that nowadays? | FLAG |

That image can't be of me: my ropes definitely don't have a middle mark AND I've never led a pitch in my life without a helmet! I found that image on my wife's laptop and I just assumed it was me from a few years ago (same color double ropes, looks like Hawk). Wow, I guess it's time for a new profile pic...and maybe a new wife? | FLAG |

| A couple people have mentioned using Sharpies. I thought Sharpies used an ink-base that degraded nylon. Is that not correct? | FLAG |

| I ordered my T.E.C. Sharpie from these guys cause I couldn' find one locally. Arrived pretty quick and none of my ropes (nor my friends who used the marker) have yet to break in half. allenap.stores.yahoo.net/shtpema.html | FLAG |
