Lungern wall

Description

Rain, the enemy of the aspiring alpinist, has few escapes. Lungern offers crimpy and slopey limestone cragging completely protected from the rain by a huge roof, a boon to Luzern / Zurich area climbers.

The crag also has one of the shortest approaches known to mankind, with a small parking area 60 seconds from the wall.

Mosquitos are a constant presence, rare for Switzerland.

North-facing, so a good spot for hot summer days.

Getting There

Train / bus to Brünig-Hasliberg, or drive to get even closer. In neighborhood of Meiringen, central Switzerland.

Featured Route For Lungern
Martin on Kuhhandel ("cow deal" = under the table deal)

Kuhhandel 7a 5.11d  International : Europe : ... : Lungern
Easy climbing for a few bolts quickly turns to crimpy edges (dusty from being protected overhead by the roof). Then holds get bigger as the route hits a large bulge, with a few holds where actual crack technique is useful, before busting left on a juggy traverse. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
