Lumpy water fountain gone! :(
Climbed at Lumpy today, fortunately it was cloudy and not a bazillion degrees, because the water fountain is no more. |
I was wondering the same thing ?? |
I know I saw that today and it made me sad - I've had many a grateful drink at that fountain after a long hot day. Any chance it's temporary, for repairs or something? |
Suckage! WTF? |
Noooooo. That was the only reason I climbed at Lumpy. |
It is a sad day for America. I remember talking to a ranger several years back and he told me that they had intended to remove the fountain, but the water actually tested as some of the purest in the region, so they decided to keep it active. |
Perhaps its usage is causing a water shortage at the cabin nearby? Probably not this year, but maybe in years past. |
I WAS DYING FOR THAT FRESH WATER AFTER J CRACK. CMON TURN IT ON AND LET IT POUR INTO MY MOUTH HOLE |
How far was this water fountain from your parked cars? |
Well guess you've never climbed at Lumpy if you don't know where the fountain is located. |
Was the dedication plaque also removed? That fountain was installed with donation money and dedicated in memory of a climber that fell off the Bastille, iirc, but was fond of Lumpy. Glendenning? iirc. |
No, the fountain is still there, just without water capability. This photo is from yesterday, sorry it's not a good photo, my phone takes crappy pics when the case is on. |

Lived for 2+ months in the Aspenglen campground in the park in 1980 (yes, park regs were different then). Due to the proximity of our vehicles, I don't think I ever used the water fountain, so its location is lost in the dust of my memory. Now that I see the photo, yeah, it kinda seems a little familiar. The choices were: 1) work with the landowners 2) lose access |

The fountain is about .8 miles from the parking lot. |
