This is a little different venue but let me ask you, why not?
It looks like there is quite a lot to learn. Please share your first hand stories and personal experiences. Again, please humor us by not posting hear say or what you are thinking of doing eventually. Hope to find some pearls of wisdom not just crabby snarks and wishy washy "big fish tales".

Rent a crane.
Load van on sailboat.
Get a tow out to sea.
Shoot hole in boat.
Hold onto gunwales.

Buy a cheap van and flexi seal it. Drive it off a cliff into the sea. It should float just fine and you get the best of both worlds!

Just sold a big sailboat due to the frustration of always having something in need of repair. Definitely more expensive than a van and limited to living in coastal areas. BOAT = Bring On Another Thousand.

Ah MP with their wordsmithship...When have nothing to say, say a cliche. It's a 20 foot tiny boat for God's sake. It's a toy sail boat essentially. Intended to be our home away from home aka second residence. Meth addicts don't bother me, I'm not too skiddish since I get a lot of that kind at work. As long as they are not gonna try to mess with our stuff. So, do marinas have surveillance cameras? Cops are all over the place where we are and we will only keep minimal stuff on the boat. As long as they are not gonna try to snatch a motor, which will be locked of course.

Is it too much to ask people with real experiences to contribute? Real stories, real people. Keep the spray on the topo and beta pages.

Have you heard of satire? Oh I guess not. There are not enough good comics in this country. Then again, I heard it takes extra brain cells to comprehend stuff like that. Which is a far shot to expect from climbers.

I know a girl who lives part time on a boat and part time in a van. Her blog may have some interesting tidbits for you: vanvagabond.com/

Burch, obsessions like that are not healthy. Got yer ahrse whooped in judo class didn't you? I predicted it. Scoot, human excrement!

All I'm trying to do is have a civil conversation and get some advice. Isn't what forum is there for?

I lived on a 21' Santana for a summer with a friend. We had to repair the electrical system daily to keep the bilge pump from shorting out. We would piss & s*^t in buckets when the weather was to bad to go above deck. I remember one night my girlfriend and were watching the Perseid then we went below and fell asleep. When we woke up we were half covered in water as the boat had sunk (for the second time). After we got it out we moved it to a co-workers driveway and just continued to live on it until his HOA sent him a nastygram.

Boats are hot, leaky, creaky things. They are in constant need of repair and a 20 foot boat is too small to live on comfortably. But I suspect none of that makes any difference to the kind of person who sleeps best beneath the sound of a halyard shackle clanging against a mast.

I'd move back in tomorrow...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
