Rock Sticks are Ushba's titanium pitons. They suck, because they are too hard, and do not conform to the rock. They are/were also quite pricy.

Are they wood? I've been looking everywhere for an original wood set, but can only seem to find metal sticks.

There are still a few stuck in Devil's Tower I believe...

Once upon a time? I've looked at Ushba pins, I don't remember them being called "Rock Sticks."

They're just listed as "Alpine Pitons" on Ushba's page

hey willie, you want genuine wood pitons? I happen to have a set that I absolutely did NOT just cut out of a two by four. 40 bucks a piece due to their very rare nature.

I first learned rope skills from the U.S. Army in the mid-80's, and even so, that rope causes severe puckering.

Probably because it needs no further explanation, James. They're tree climbing spikes. :)

Here you go, George. From: needlesports.com/NeedleSports/nutsmuseum/camsstory.htm

"With the Joker, invented in 1985 by Stefan Engers, the German company Bergsport made a marked entry in the world of the mechanical chock. With only two mobile cams and a simple loop of cable stiffened by a coiled spring, this new comer had the advantage of a flexible handle to adapt to all positions."

If you were interested in that crap, that's not unfair price.

Plus, at least he's got it on the front lawn for pics, not sitting on oily concrete garage slab next to leaky cans of solvents.

I called some major bullshit on a dude selling a huge heaping pile of 80s alpine gear. Foot fangs for $250, fucked up Invernos for $300, Black Prophets for $400, old skanky ass rope and slings for near or even above retail kind of shit. He replied me back and told me he just didn't know any better and was going to adjust his prices accordingly but you didn't need to be such an ass about it!

Two weeks later, his puts his shit back up, prices unmodified.

Guys can ask whatever they want for their shit... but some guys are obviously just being predatory fucks, hoping some noob will bite without knowing any better.

I have no idea what kind of crazy redneck rappel anchor you could set up with a rack of passive gear and 6 pulleys. Maybe some kind of crazy rescue zip line?
