Description

Left Flank is one of the most popular sport crags in the RRG. It has routes ranging from 5.8 to 5.13 with a good sampling of routes at all grades between.

It has a western and southern aspect and is a great winter crag.

The rock is surreally patterend and this is a great crag for photos.

Getting There

From Slade take highway 15 west for 1 mile. Turn right onto hwy 77. Continue on 77 through Nada Tunnel. At the bottom of the hill past the Tunnel park in the lot on the left and hike back toward the Tunnel looking for a trail on the opposite side. After the first creek crossing take the trail uphill to the left.

The approach trail comes out at the route Maypop.

Starting up The Dinosaur

The Dinosaur 5.12d 7c 28 IX 28 E6 6b  KY : Red River Gorge : Left Flank
This crimpy number combines an intense crux with enduro jugs on some of the best stone in the country. The business is all about finger strength & pain tolerance with a few tough moves on brutal crimps, though a significant pump, and devious moves keep the outcome in doubt right up to the end.Begin atop a flat boulder. Long cranks between incut holds leads to a good ledge & shake below the third bolt. Strenuous V6-ish cranks lead to another ledge and a great rest on a creaky & somewhat spooky...[more]   Browse More Classics in KY
