Comprised of two crags (plus the states best bouldering) separated by about 4 miles of trail... These two anorthosite cliffs hold a number of good climbs and sweet locations! Climbs are up to 100 feet. The rock here is sharp so tape for fingers and a pad for your rope are both good ideas. You are still in the no-chalk zone and fixed gear is non-kosher.
Good camping either at the crags on the SHT or at either of the State Forest Campgrounds in the area - Finland and Ekbeck. Supplies (food and beer) are available in Finland, Silver Bay or Beaver Bay.
Follow highway 61 past Tettegouche and Highway 1 to Lake County road 6. Park in the Superior Hiking Trail parking lot / gravel pit. Section 13 is roughly one mile north on the SHT. Sawmill is roughly 3 miles south on the SHT.
A very nice line. This climb took me forever until I came here when it was about 40 degrees and it went right away. Being that its a sloper fest it is very temperature dependent problem. Depending on the weather it could go anywhere from V5 to V9. Start as low as you can on the arete with hands matched on the v-shaped edge. Follow the slopers to a seam then top out over the nose/peak of the boulder....[more]Browse More Classics in MN
