Large buttress at the head of Echo Canyon
Walk down the La Luz Trail and take the cut off to the tram terminal. At the Domingo Baca Overlook (see the echo canyon description) look for the man made retaining wall. Walk down hill towards YFT. Stay left or south and go down a little gully into a notch. Hike SW staying high through some talus until you locate a little notch which requires a short down climb. This puts you into a second notch. Hike up and SW to the summit of La Vista and the start of the rappels. The first rappel is Down in a gully off a good tree. A short rap puts you into another notch with aspen and spruce trees with a step gully dropping off to the NE. Cross this gully and scramble up to the top of the rock face. Rap "Raven Steals the Sun". Another option is to walk around to the South and descend the gully that separates La Vista from Hail Peak. Yet another option is to descend Echo Canyon past Yucca Flower Tower.

You have to swing with a bit of effort to reach this as it will be off to your right a ways. We left a link on the fixed pin but it is wise to leave a draw here as the rope was tough to pull. From here rap to a tree covered ledge ~100 (The Living Room). Walk north across the ledge and scramble down to a big spr...[more] Browse More Classics in NM
