I'm looking to get a pair of Trangos for summer in the sierra. Now that there are three models: S EVO (red), Alp (gray), and Cube GTX (hideous). They are pretty similar in weight, with the cube being lightest. I'm mostly interested in durability as I will be in these 80-100 days a year. Please let me know what you think of your pair, thanks in advance.
I had the alp for one outing and they leaked so bad I had to keep dumping out water. I Am glad I took them on a one day trip. So then I swapped them for the cube and I couldn't be happier. Perfect summer boot, but definitely not warm. Also the lacing system seems better on the cube.
I have a pair of the S EVO. The sole and rubber rand around the boot began to deteriorate after 40 days of use. Even so, the boots' waterproofness is still intact. I'm not a fan of the rubber patch on top of the toe box as it was the first thing to come off. There are similar models form other brands such as scarpa that are made better in terms of durability. They are however incredibly light and climb pretty well even on 5.8 rock. I use them almost solely now as my boots for heavy packs.
