BETA PHOTO: Photo/topo for Kid Rock (S. Face), Joshua Tree NP

Description

Kid Rock is the massive 140' high slab which leans against the southwest corner of Saddle Rocks - Skirt . On the west face is The Kid (5.10a R), a somewhat committing route which sees limited traffic and is the original route on the formation while on the south face are The Renter (5.9) and The Landlord (5.10d), two seldom done but sunny routes which can be nice when it's cold.

Getting There

To approach the west face head to the right side of Saddle Rocks - Skirt and then make an easy scramble up boulders to the base of The Kid.

To approach the south facing routes circle around and left heading uphill along a rough trail which paralles the rocks. When possible head into the rocks and scramble up to the base.

The Kid 5.10a R  CA : Joshua Tree National Park : ... : Kid Rock
Make a hard move past the first bolt and continue up a long easy runout to the third bolt. Climb up to a steep headwall, clip the fourth bolt, and make a tricky step around to the right (5.8 R). Carefully climb up and left to the fifth bolt; a fall before clipping this bolt would be very serious.Continue to the anchor and lower (100') to the ground with a 60m rope. This is a fun route to do before or after Walk on the Wild Side....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
