Certain crags are closed. MORE INFO >>>

Description

The Southern Region holds a very large portion of the harder routes at the RRG. It is home to the Motherload, Drive-By, Bob Marley and many others.

The majority of this land is on the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve. Despite this there have been crag and road closures due to Oil rights on the same property.

Be respectful of the Oil rigs and try to peacefully coexist

Getting There

From Miguel's head south on HW 11 until you Hit 498. Take a right and continue until you hit Bald Rock Rd. From here go right again and follow dirt roads down a big hill. Depending on the weather the road may become un-drivable. Most of the crags are off this road.

It's often said about this route... "I've never been kicked off by holds that big"... Very true, everything is good.. there is a crux, it's not much harder than the rest of the moves on the route, just straight up enduro climbing. Fight the pump past the crux on huge holds. It's about a 15 degree overhanging....[more]

It's a good idea to use a car with a high clearance

Driving Tips:

1. Go slow
2. Put your car in low gear before starting up or down a hill.
3. Don't follow other cars closely, especially on the hills. Leave a lot of space in case they stop.
4. Don't stop on the hills. Your car may slip or slide trying to get going again, and you'll just tear up the road.
5. Keep your copilot's eyes on the guidebook descriptions and any maps. There are a lot of wrong turns, and it can be hard to turn around. Most of the little pulloffs are the wrong way.
6. Think twice if it's been wet or the road is muddy.

I did this in a Honda, but it had been relatively dry when I did.

Finally, Bald Fork Rd may not be labeled as such. The key is to look for two turn offs from 498, one before a curve, one right after, on the north side, that are marked as having a church.
