Description

This is a sunny, secluded 250' cliff with dozens of cracklines on super high-quality BTC granite.

Friends and I have established 13 pitches on the crag, two of them still projects, with room for still more.

I wholly acknowledge the possibility (although unlikely) that folks have climbed here before, so any info about previous activity would be great.

Getting There

Park in the pullout beneath Nancy's Rock, across the road from Idlewild Dam. Hike up the trail to Nancy's Rock, then veer right around the cliff band and straight up the broad, grassy ridge. There is no trail, nor a good way to describe the details of the approach. My photos of the hillside will be the best tool for finding the crag. 45-60 minute uphill approach.

Jim Belcer waking the flake on the FA. 2-4-2006.

Wake The Flake 5.10 PG13  CO : Estes Park Valley : ... : Jungle Wall
This is an exciting and airy pitch that climbs the golden hanging slab in the center of the cliff.25' above the starting ledge is a small pine growing out of the cliff. Directly above this pine is a big right-facing corner capped by a big roof. Wake The Flake starts up this corner, via a surly little fingercrack through a bulge / roof, then traverses out right onto the slab to gain the hanging flake out there. Follow the flake until you're higher than the big roof in the corner out left. Step le...[more]   Browse More Classics in CO

This is the view from the parking lot for Idlewild Dam, across the road from the Nancy's Rock pullout. The pyramid shaped formation left of The Jungle Wall is a good one to keep in mind for bearings while you hike the hillside. The Jungle Wall is out of view for most of the approach, but the pyramid is often visible.

Actually the description should say park in the parking below "Nancy's Rock", not Mary's.

Whoops, thanks for catching that, Allen. I fixed it in the description.

No problem. I just thought the hike from Mary's Bust would be too long. Nice photos by the way. I intend to get up there this spring, try out your routes and put some new ones up as well. Allen

Yeah, the approach from Mary's Bust would be brutal, huh?
By the way, the two new routes up on Skull Rock both seem hard, 11+ at least.
