Description

This massive block was once a part of the short cliffband directly behind it until it suddenly cut loose after a particularly heavy winter rain years back. Gone are the two cracks on either side (Fists of Fury, a 5.10a fist crack and Enter the Dragon, a 5.9 squeeze chimney) but in exchange there now exists the hardest and one of the best boulder problem in all of Joshua Tree - not such a bad trade really.

Getting There

Veer right past the Streetcar Boulder on the way to Gunsmoke to reach this block.

A few years ago a large chunk of rock fell out of the hillside behind Streetcar Named Desire during a rainstorm. What used to comprise a .12a sport route and two cracks including Enter the Dragon (.9) and Fists of Fury (.10a) is now a very tall and very difficult boulder problem. It climbs a sweeping, beautiful, 45 degree marbled brown face to a lip and then a thin, glassy, lower angled rust-colored face to a finish at least 25 feet off the desert floor....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
