East Railay Beach at sunset. The high tide makes ...

Description

This area is new for Mountain Project, and is just getting started. Feel free to contribute!

The east side of the Railay Peninsula. The beach in this area isn't much to look at, and during low tide basically turns into a mudflat. It's cheaper to stay here rather than at Railay West, but perhaps a bit more expensive than Tonsai.

A large number of bars and restaurants, including the "Last Bar" which indeed is the last bar on the beach. ATM in front of Viewpoint Resort, and there are several mini-marts.

Getting There

Long-tail boat from Ao Nam Mao; long jungle trail from Tonsai Bay; paths through the various resorts from Railay West.

Accomodations

  • Railay Cabana
  • Rapala Resort

The first ascent of Strider... we dressed like girls back then!

Strider 5.12b  International : Thailand : ... : Low Tide Wall
Approximately midway across the wall, climb up a short dihedral to a bulge, then out right and up. Come back left near the anchors. This was the first route on the wall. It orginally went to a ledge above where the anchor is, but we were on 50 meter ropes back then and everyone hated having to drag a rope up to rap off. So we lowered it (no change in grade or quality). The entire wall was then called "Lord of the Rings Wall", cus we were reading th...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
