The city of Wanaka offers a number of sport climbing opportunites about 15km west of town in the Matukituki Valley. There are a large number of easy to access routes for the locals or visiting climbers. There is a wide range of climbing from 5.5 to 5.13. Check for seasonal closures, since the climbing areas are on pastoral lease land. The lambing season is from Oct 1 to November 15th.

Take the Matukituki Valley road west out of Wanaka for about 15km.
