Jed Perkins at The Penthouse, with Squamish below.

Description

The Penthouse is a section of The Chief that lies above the Grand Wall, just below the south summit. It is home to a handful of sport and mixed routes in the 5.10 to 5.11 range, and offers spectacular views from moderate single-pitch climbs.

Getting There

Take the Backside trail from the campground and follow the signs to the South summit. A few minutes before the top (just after the fixed metal ladder on the trail) break left on a side-trail that traverses along the top of the cliffs. The Penthouse wall is undercut by a small overhang for much of its length, and there is a small memorial plaque that you will pass as soon as you come to it.

Hiking time is around 30 minutes from the campground.
