DescriptionThe Moai is an impressive, though little-known sea-stack on the north head of Fortescue Bay. Featuring several excellent routes, the Moai is far more mellow than other Tasman Peninsula sea stacks. This is the perfect warm-up climb for more challenging adventures. Getting ThereFrom the Fortescue Bay Beach, head north and gain the trail to Waterfall Bay. After about an hour, Bivouac Bay is reached. Continue another 10-15 minutes, where the trail truns sharply North. Look for a climbers trail marked by a cairn, and follow this east for about 100yds to the cliffs edge. A series of rappels (do-able with one 60m rope) reach a broad rock pedestal 10 feet above the Tasman Sea. If you have noticed the Moai by now, you're in the wrong place!
