Description 

Point Perpendicular is Australia's premier sea-cliff climbing area. Considering the vast number of such areas on this island-continent that is a significant statement. The 50m-tall sandstone cliffs vary dramatically in quality, with most of the lines offering excellent, pocketed stone with interesting features. This area has a distinct adventure feel, although many lines are entirely bolted, with fixed hangers. Virtually all routes are approached from the top via rappel. Its wise to fix a static line for an assured retreat path.

The Point is on the Southern tip of the Beecroft Peninsula, and the climbing areas are located entirely on an Australian Navy base. The area is occasionally closed on short notice due to Naval operations. A free and easy-to-obtain visitor's pass is required for entry.

There is an excellent guidebook for this area, titled "Point Perpendicular; A Climber's Guide to the Beecroft Peninsula", by Bob McMillan, Glen Jones and Robyn Cleland, self published in 2001. Has excellent descriptions, pics, maps and history.

Getting There 

Point Perp is about a 30 minute drive from the recently-popularized town of Nowra (itself about 2 hours south of Sydney). Find your way to the town of Currarong on the SE coast of Australia. Just outside of the W end of town, head south on Lighthouse Road. Stop at the Ranger Station for a visitor pass, then continue through the gate along the dirt road toward the crags. At 3.7 Km is the turnoff for Honeymoon Bay (primo pay camping). The road ends at the lighthouse at 9.6Km. Parking varies depending on the crag.
