Cut a slit in the end, make a wedge to fit and drive it in until it bottoms out in the hole and expands.

Aren't wave bolts designed to be able to do that?

Some of us were around when all climbing bolts worked that way, not allowed since the 1996 Euro standard though.

Use a paper-clip.

Unfold/unbend the paperclip.

Take one end and wrap it around the threads at the end of the rod so it stays put. Bend the other end into a simple, spring-loaded barb. Shove/tap the rod into place. Done.

I recommend practicing without the glue first. Take a hanger and nut so you can pull the rod out when it's time to put in the glue.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Fixed Hardware: Bolts & Anchors
