Heard about some climber falling "at the Roof Route" and breaking a leg (this weekend). Heard it on the news. . . just a blip.
Anyone know what climb or who it was or how long the fall or why the fall, etc., etc.?

I believe the climber was on Kloberdanz. He was about 25' up without gear yet when we passed him on the trail about 1 minute before he fell. We did not see the fall, but heard it as we were quite close. We initally heard from another climber who was a part of the party, that it was a compounded tib/fib fracture, but did not see the injured climber and couldn't get an answer from the paramedics later.

Nick Walker, Eric Pinkston, and Tony Bubb climb on the Purdue Campus. Photo taken by a cop, 1992. No joke.

The info above is more or less correct. A doctor was present at the time and he did break his leg/foot, but it seems he'll be OK. As far as who it was, let's leave them their privacy. A member of that party is a member of this forum, and if they want to come forward, they can.

Noah's first rope...kinda.

So Wayne, your climbing was more important than helping a fellow climber with a compound fracture? Didn't think to check to see if they were OK or needed help? What is this world coming to.

Mug shot!

Kevin, I was climbing with Wayne that day. We called 911 (at the request of one of the EIGHT people including his DAD) that were standing or climbing right next to him and closer than us, and went to wait at the footbridge for Park Super Steve Muehlhauser (whom we called right after 911) to pass on info about the accident. What the fu*k else were we supposed to do? Do you really think we just walked away and left some poor screaming kid all alone to die and went climbing? You're an idiot.

There were plenty of people there- Wayne and Hank were not needed.
I believe that they knew that, especially because a member of that party passed them on the trail to go get a med kit right after the fall.

There was no cry for help. A doctor was present and in control of the situation. As it was, I was there and waited maybe 15-20 minutes for the doctor to set the splint, etc before any help was needed anyway.

Maybe its best for people to take it easy with the imagination if they don't know the situation.

What is this world coming to Kevin? its coming to *people* like yourself passing judgements on people/incidents which they know NOTHING ABOUT! So give it a rest please. Because Hank and I were planning to get on a kloberdanz variation, I did say right after the accident "lets go get a beer after telling Steve and return to the scene of the crime, shouldn't be a line for kloberdanz anymore!"

Now that makes me a much worse/more selfish and inconsiderate person than any action I did or did not take at the accident.

Cheers all!

I'm glad the climber wasn't hurt bad, I have heard that the leg was not even broken (but its only rumor and innuendo so . . . ), that would be wonderful!

No mention of 911, no mention of helping out or others on the scene. You're right I jumped to conclusions and assumed you guys just went climbing. Sorry for being an A$$.
