Fellow climbers and rescue crews evacuated an injured climber Sunday at Tennessee Wall after she took a serious leader fall.

Details are scanty at this point, but the unidentified 22-year-old woman from Indiana was leading Blood on the Rocks (5.10b/c) in the north section of T-Wall. Witnesses said three or four pieces of gear pulled when she fell, causing her to deck. The height of the fall was apparently 30-35' (the route is an 85' single pitch).

The extent of the woman's injuries aren't known, but people on the scene said she landed on her hips and back. Numerous climbers came to her aid until the rescue squad arrived, then helped carry her in a litter down the long descent trail so she could be transported to the hospital.

Best wishes to the injured leader and "attaboys/attagirls" to the climbers who volunteered to help her!

More details as they're available.

Gallatin Tower festivities. 5/5/04.

Yikes! The sustained, pumpy low section makes it kinda hard to slow down and place good gear. Best wishes for a quick recovery.

Hope she's allright. Good thing there was plenty of help because its a long way to the road if you're hurt.

One of my early outings at the T-wall ended when my partner had a groundfall. We were up there on a weekday and fortunately he found the resolve to hike himself out. Crazy how violent that can be.

That partner wasn't me was it?

I took a groundfall some years back on this same route, though sounds like it was from a lower height than this climber fell. I decked from about 15ft, and the one piece I placed above the easy initial moves (at my feet when I took the fall) pulled. Fractured a few vertebrae and messed my wrist up pretty good. The piece I blew was placed in an outward flaring pod and the cam had walked towards the front of the pod as I repeatedly climbed up and down to check out the first few difficult moves.
Kudos to those who helped with the evac.

Evan! PM sent. Still get the shivers when I think of that day. Blocking out some key details has always helped me. When are you comin' out to visit. What's up with the Emory crew? Isn't Wayne still around CO?

I don't know if you realize it, but you guys saved my life back then. Gave me some badly needed psych!

Update -- sounds like the injured climber is recovering well. See this related message thread: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/southern_states/twall_injur>>>>>

Great news!
