I'm moving to Tucson

I'm moving to Tucson for three months while i do an internship with the scc. I'm very interested in doing some climbing, hiking, and biking while I'm there. I will be moving there mid September. I would like to go out with sone people that know the area and could give me some pointers. If nothing else i would love to hear about some of your favorite places within a couple of hours from Tucson! Also i will be having to find a place to stay when I'm not working. Is there a hostel or something? I would appreciate any advice. And one more thing is a place called the shelter still around... An old bar someone told me about.
