Christian Prellwitz sticking the crux deadpoint on...
Description Some of the best bouldering to be found in the southwest Colorado area. Great Dakota sandstone projects to keep you interested for a long time. Spring-fall and can get a few people on them at times. I've seen as many as 3 other parties there at a time.
Getting There From Telluride, take CO 145 to the Ilium turnoff. Follow about 1.5 miles up the road. A small pulloff on the right represents the entrance. Hike about 100 yds into the trees on one of two small foot paths. Problems range from easy to hard, with many different boulders scattered throughout the trees.

Bert's Butt V6 CO : Telluride/Norwood area : ... : The Premier
Start crouched with hands matched on the lowest undercling. Establish feet on the wall and bump to the next undercling. Match and make a difficult move (or series of moves) to get to the obvious, chalked jug. From the jug, move up and left to another large jug/shelf and then upwards to an easy top out. It's hard to say what the crux move is. It seems different for different people. No matter what, it's a lot of powerful moves in a row. The move to the second good shelf can be a bit of a heartbre... | This is a video that I shot during last two weeks of March of some of the best problems in Ilium. There are certainly plenty of great problems that I didn't have the time to climb/film for this video, but I tried to choose some area testpieces, as well as some more obscure problems in order to entice people to check them out! My hope is to eventually do a movie like this for the Mine Boulders and the Tree House as well. We'll see. The grades of several problems are different from what I gave them in the guidebook. These grades are just my thoughts after having the last five or so years to refine the grades a bit. Any comments/thoughts/suggestions/questions are greatly appreciated. Enjoy! |

| Telluride Bouldering Beta Part 4- More From The Ilium Boulders . Here's another video that was filmed during the Fall of 2012. The goal was to continue to showcase some of best problems in Telluride, at all grades. I also made it a point to show some newer problems that were cleaned and climbed since the guidebook came out. These include 'Year Of Hibernation', 'Rainy Days In Bas Cuvier', 'Headlights Like Diamonds', 'The Hurst Problem' and 'Super Frogger'. Problems shown include: 'All Our Yesterdays' (V6), 'Year Of Hibernation' (V6), 'Rainy Days In Bas Cuvier' (V3/4), 'Headlights Like Diamonds' (V5/6), 'Pinch' (V4), 'Fuck The Method' (V5), 'The Hurst Problem' (V5), 'Super Frogger' (V6), 'Free Range Sit' (V4) and 'Your Climbing Makes My Eyes Bleed' (V1+). Some of the grades are different than what was given in the guidebook. This is simply an attempt to reflect the current grade consensus for each problem. Hopefully this video will inspire and motivate people to visit/explore Ilium and Telluride. As always, comments/questions/thoughts are always welcome! |
