Climbs found scattered about through the boulder f...

Description

Boulder fields of perfect basalt, and Swan Falls Dam, are found within the Snake River Birds of Prey Natural Area along the eastern banks of the Snake River. The area has no tree shade and can be climbed in Spring, Autumn, Winter or early Summer mornings, as the Eastern cliffs above the drainage block morning sun, even on the hottest of days. No crowds exist but occasional trash left by the thoughtless should inspire Leave No Trace travel by responsible climbers. Parents should know that this is a cub friendly climbing area and there are public restrooms near the Dam.

Getting There

From Boise follow I-84 going West towards Nampa/Caldwell. Take the Kuna-Meridian (Exit 44) and turn left. Traveling South on Kuna-Meridian Rd (SR-69) the road will continue for about 8 miles and the road will turn into Avalon along a right bend in the road. Travel Avalon Rd until you reach Swan Falls Rd and turn left. Follow road until you descend the gorge towards Swan Falls Dam and the climbing fields below. Approach time is from 5-15 minutes from the car.
