Please note that multiple vehicles have been broken into near Little Eiger in Clear Creek Canyon since December 2007. I am aware of at least 4 vehicles, 2 of which were broken into on December 15th and two this past Wednesday, February 6th. Two early in the morning and two late at night. All were ice climbers. The criminals appear to be going solely after cash, credit cards, etc as they left all other valuables (phone, ipod, etc) in the vehicle. The criminals then made there way to Blackhawk where they used the stolen credit cards, etc.

Does anyone have similar reports? Does anyone have any additional information that might help with the investigation?

If so, please post and/or contact Luke Ligrani with the Blackhawk Police at 303-582-0503.

Lets put an end to this and find these bastards!

the end is in sight, just a few more miles of copperheads to go!

I noticed the remnants of break-ins last time I was up there, a couple months ago. It's not the first time I've seen broken glass at crag trail-heads. I think climbers were outed a while ago. We generally park in remote areas and are known to be away from our vehicles for several hours at a time. Just sayin'..

As you pointed out, it's on the way up to the casinos, where everyone's thrilled to see people with cash and credit cards.

It definitely sucks. Maybe Clear Creek's just another area that you gotta take all your shit with you and leave the doors unlocked.

Sorry that happened to you.

Hmm, haven't thought of it that way. Take you wallet, phone, and ipod with you and leave the doors unlocked. Maybe a note in the glovebox that says, no wallet here!

I had my truck window bashed in Austin at a crag and they got my wallet, phone, and wedding ring. After 2 hrs they had already spent a ton of money on my CCs.

What ??

So a week or so ago I pulled up to a coffee shop in Denver, crappy weather, snowing, slushy.
Step out of my vehicle and there in the street was a credit card.

I grab it, bring it into the coffee shop and as soon as I get to the counter I tell the "barrister",
I found this in the street someone must have dropped it.

The person replies, "geez at least you didn't run off and charge a bunch of stuff on it" and throws it in a drawer....

WTF >>>> I didn't respond.......Just placed my order and started wondering what happened to society.

Not to be overly picky, but a robbery entails someone actually threatening you in person. These are burglaries.

Also, this just sounds like some of Obama's supporters simply getting a headstart on how things will be a year from now.

Whats up with that flag?

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.
I just was talking to Langston about this last Wednesday. I didn't have anything taken but saw broken glass over the snow. I would guess it was sometime around mid-day that Wednesday's happened.

As well with Blackhawk, is there anything reported to Jeffco?

Yes, Jeffco is also looking into it.

~2000' above Boulder.

I also saw some broken glass up there at the Little Eiger pullout when I went climbing last Saturday. Probably left over from the break-in last Wednesday.

Mike - As for the flag on the wall in that video - the person running the office looked Cuban, and she was a volunteer staffer. They mentioned in the video that they hadn't brought in Obama's staff yet. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

I was in Manhattan(NY, not Kansas...for those who have never crossed the Mississippi) one time and there was a BMW parked with a note on the dashboard in big letters, "CAR UNLOCKED...NOTHING INSIDE". Maybe it's come to that in Clear Creek!

Steep downhill shots are always frustrating. Considering the horizontal distance to the target, rather than the diagonal when calculating drop is the general rule, correct?

break-ins suck...not too long ago in Kentucky's Red cars would be left at the crag with windows down, doors unlocked & sometimes open (windows were still being smashed even with doors unlocked)...this seemed to let the criminals know that there was nothing worth the effort in that car...I hope your criminals at Clear Creek get caught.

Back in the 80's I used to live near downtown Denver. Jacking car stereos was epidemic. The solution was that people started fixing razor blades to the stereo's backside. After numerous tip amputations, the Denver Post wrote an article stating that people who did this were racists.

Looking down from Notchtop

I did the unlocked doors and rolled down windows tonight next to Little Eiger. No break in, but some ice fell on my nose and cut me like a hidden razor blade behind a car stereo!

Good Luck!

Ice climbers, if you see this guy, I think we will all understand if he is found in a remote ice gully, bound by 9mm climbing cord with a 2 inch icicle pounded into his eye-socket. No further investigation will be necessary...

I'll bet we'd see a sharp drop in the number of car break-ins too.

C'mon Deaun, a little restraint here, no need for violence when we can have a cookout with the sheriff.

Not my fault some guy is dangling off an anchor in his skivies 50 meters off the deck while we get some rib-eyes & prawns a-simmerin.

You'd have plenty of time to do the math while hanging out in your concealed position with an unobstructed view of the car. All you need is a trig table, a calculator, and one of these:

Seems to me if these guys are stealing Credit Cards couldn't someone leave a "Flagged" card in a car and see if it gets used at a casino in Blackhawk? Something the police could respond to quickly as soon as its used. I dunno... but if these guy's MO is to steal money to use at Blackhawk, then they are predictable and could be caught. Wishful thinking maybe.

What goes up must come down

At least they didn't steal your car. A buddies car was stolen out of Boulder Canyon a few years back while he was climbing. It turned out to be a serial car thief targeting Boulder Climbers. A good alarm can generally deter thieves.
