Homemade volumes anybody?
|
I've already made the triangular one from the home climbing wall resource and was wondering if any body had made any others |
|
I have made heaps of them. Triangles are definitely the easiest. Just join 2 triangles together and trace the shape you need to fill the remaining side. The aren't the prettiest straight up but a bit of time on the sander and they come up great. Also, I always make the bottom edge flat so it sits flush to the wall. Table saw and a bevel square make the job quick and easy. |

This may be a bit bizarre, but my old boss has a woody and made a few unique ones. When he came across a tree that had come down and it had one of those weird, bulbous growths on it, he would use a chainsaw and cut the growth out, then cut it in half and make a clean, flat cut on the backside. After letting it dry for a couple weeks in his garage, he'd seal it and stain it, then bolt it onto the wall. We had a lot of fun using the slopers, pockets, and edges that they created. |

Routesetters Anonymous on Facebook has a link to a SketchUp file in their files section with all sorts of plywood volume inspiration. Some of them may take a little more woodworking skill, but you should be able to identify what you can pull off. |

Little update: Using the last big piece of plywood to make an 8 foot tall by roughly 2.75 foot wide monster triangle. I'll have pictures up on Saturday when I'll hopefully have it done. Planning on doing a rising sun on it. Any other ideas would be appreciated. |

Well, the big volume didn't turn out. I mis-measured and ran out of 2x4s for the frame so i plan on cutting it down a bit to cut down on wood for framing if I need any frame at all |
