Description
There was some climbing activity here back in the day (70's to mid 90's) when people camped nearby and park staff lived close by too. In the mid 90's, the Park Service management plan included building Wuksachi Lodge 8 miles away and far from the giant sequoia trees. All the campgrounds, cabins and services were then moved to Lodgepole and Wuksachi, putting this little area back under the radar. The restoration worked well for the preservation of the giant sequoias. You'll be climbing right next to the giant sequoia trees and its a high bear traffic area. Enjoy!
I've heard this place called Eli's paradise, Highlands bouldering and the Giant Forest boulders. Whatever you call it, its a good area with some highballs, a few TR's and enough problems to keep busy for a sesh. Check out the 'diving board' tree that is in the meadow. A real giant sequoia diving board! There is a couple pages of literature on this area, with old school grades and some names, in the old Sequoia/Kings guidebook.
Back on the Sunset Rock trail and just past the meadow, then again off trail to the left, is the Neat Wall.

Getting There
Park at the Giant Forest Museum, get on the Sunset Rock Trail, walk approx. one mile on this trail until you see a meadow and some giant boulders on your right. Go behind the big boulders and into the forest for more boulders.
Don't go to the end of the Sunset Rock Trail (1.7mi.) Walking time is about 15 mins.
