Come down and make an over night of it- we can put you up or maybe you could even camp at the silo....we can see. We also have some nice hotels nearby.

Check out our video shot when the ice was new and thin and no snow on the ground. Nice climbing though:

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.
Now this is pretty wild!

Stick'n the fun back into FUN!

I don't know why some people are being such dicks to the OP. Get a life. Speaking as someone who has lived in both climbing paradise and climbing hell (currently London), I'd sure go check this place out if it was all I had (and I don't even ice climb).

Word! Just sayin.
Some people are squatty little nozzles who feel closer to man size when they're able to take shots from afar.

Sweet outfit. You need a disco ball up there. . . that'd turn ya some profits! Shit, you be pumpin a disco ball, I rollin out der' maself!

Me and the offspring walking back to the car after a day of cragging.

I've never climbed ice, but you can bet your ass I'd be there just to try that out if I was anywhere close. That's probably the coolest home setup I've ever seen.

Thanks MF' /;-) It's a real fun job. I've seen bigger ones done many years ago, but don't think they've kept up on the effort as much as we have here the last 2 winters. We peaked with last weekends conditions so far this season; hope to grow it bigger and better into Feb. if possible.

Looks awsome. Maybe I find some time to head up there in Feb.
Makes me miss my old outdoor 20' wall. Good job.

At the "summit"

Looks like you folks have two TR anchors. Is that correct? Also, from the pictures, it looks like the routes would go at somewhere from 3+ to 4+? I'm wondering if your nice ice would be suitable to take a group potentially consisting of some first-timers to.

'G, the ice has 4 to 5 ropes set, depending on how much and what quality of ice we get frozen up each time. It gets a bit crowded with more than 3 climbers at a time, but route choices do exist. WI4 is probably typical of what we have. It's all steep, no cauliflower cone at the base. We have some frozen boards full of ice at low angle to start off that help. But each refreeze leaves us with something different. A group of 6 or so would be ideal if some have their own gear. Our rental boots are a bit limited in sizes and number. Give Joel a call for all details. 708-341-3255. We had a spectacular live TV visit this AM from Fox News Chicago. Their reporter was a first timer and he got to the top. Others have done well for first time too.

looks like everyone is haveing fun I was raised nearby, spent my adult life in the tetons, and was forced to move back for 6 mos stints, awhile
back. So I kind of know about midwest liveing. A great big hats off to everyone involved. You have too make the best of what you have! Some are just luckier than others. Ever think about 3/8 studs
drilled in with bolted gym holds for summer time entertainment. Just sayin I would If I lived there

I so happens that the back side of that concrete silo has a bundle of holds, some real rocks epoxy glued to it...they've been there for over 20 years I think.

Thanks to Dirk , Dave and friends and all who came out to climb ice today. A bit windy, but the ice held up for many ascents. See what the 50 temps coming up Mon-Tues will do to the remainder of the formation.

How did your ice hold up today? I climb a lot at the silo in Cedar Falls IA and it looked like a shower.

I didn't have the heart to go check it out. Imagine it's pretty damaged. Was still climbable last night, but figure we will lose the entire ice mass within the next 48 hours of 40plus temps. Restart sometime after we get back down to low 20's to freeze again.

Is Cedar Falls still open? Their website has not been updated last I saw. Our ice is gone, gone, gone. This is the 3rd total meltdown this season so far.

Yeah its still open. Hasn't been a good year, only a couple weekends. Pretty sure it is without ice now as well.
