Wes Anderson on Hero's Fright Variation

Description This Hero's Fright variation is the best scenic route up the "Chicken Delight" wall. Start out to the left of Chicken Delight (rt 182) and climb up to the large ledge at 35 ft. Traverse ledge to the left and ascend wall just right of corner. Find the finger crack of Hero's Fright (rt 184) and climb it for about 5 feet. Traverse back to the right on slopey, delicate face features, and ascend on crimpers to the top.

| This route description is so close to "Full Moon Over Baraboo" 5.9. In fact, don't use holds on "Hero's Fright" and you've done a more superior route IMHO. |

| How can there be a Heroes Fright Variation with no listing of Heroes Fright? Also Full Moon Over Baraboo is just to the right of heroes fright, so basically your saying this "variation" would be ditching off Heroes Fright (which is a hard 5.7) and finish on the upper 5.9 face of Full Moon Over Baraboo.....
Seems a bit pointless, especially considering the beef of Heroes Fright is well to the upper left.
Oh and two of the pictures on this page are showing "Chicken Tonight" |

I think that was my point as well way back in March of 2004. I thought that the route description was that of "Full Moon Over Baraboo" which is to some how negotiate the roof/overhang not using holds on Hero's Fright and then climb the thin wall above.
FMOB is a fine route and I think if done clean is even harder than its 5.9 rating. But it is Devils Lake 5.9 right?! |
