Whether you are a beginner climber, an experienced mountaineer, a courageous cancer survivor or a person whose life has been affected by cancer, the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation’s first annual Climb4Life Chicago on April 9, 2016, is for you. Women, men, children and families—all abilities, all ages, and all levels—are welcome to the one-day fundraising event at Vertical Endeavors climbing gym in Glendale Heights, IL. Join local businesses, professional climbers and participants for a fun day of rock climbing, clinics with professional climbers and yoga, followed by a party with dinner, drinks, and a silent auction. Top fundraisers will win prizes like camping and climbing gear: Expect swag galore. Participants join as individuals or teams to fundraise. Proceeds go towards HERA’s scientific research grants initiative (see below).

Registration is $35 and covers the cost of the day-of fun, which begins at 1pm. Please feel free to invite your friends and family to the nighttime Summit Party, which starts at 6pm. Tickets will be available for purchase. The HERA Foundation set a goal that each participant raises $250; most participants raise much, much more! But don’t worry: We provide you everything you need for success and make it easy to meet and surpass your goal.

About ovarian cancer:
Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent killer” because the early symptoms are subtle and difficult to diagnose. If caught early enough, many women survive, but without an early detection test and awareness of the symptoms, another 15,000 women will die from this disease this year. One in 75 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in their lifetime, which means the odds are that someone in your life will be affected by this disease. You can help change this story from tragedy to hope by participating in Climb4Life Vertical Endeavors.

Where the money goes
The funds you raise will help the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation to make scientific grants to Johns Hopkins University researchers, and help fund the “dream team” at Stand Up To Cancer (of which HERA is collaborative funder) to find a cure and more effective diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Lastly, the event helps us raise awareness of the often elusive signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.
