BETA PHOTO: Headstone Crack Left (May 2011)

This is the leftmost of two short cracks that can be found on the north aspect of the boulder pile surrounding Headstone Rock. They are both worthwhile short trad climbs, and are shady on a sunny day. Both sides of the crack are lined with grippy pinches and edges. About the same difficulty as Headstone Crack Right.

Leaving Ryan Campground, walk east toward Headstone Rock (which you can't possible miss). When you reach the base of the formation, walk around to the left (north side) until you see these two obvious short cracks.

Light rack; single bolt up top for toproping. Descent is a scramble off to the left.

This climb does not feel like 5.10, and is likely closer to 5.9, but the book has it at 5.10.

BETA ALERT: (don't read it if you don't want to know) I watched my partner(s) and solid 5.10 TRAD Dads ;) back down from this side at the top of the crack, then TR'd it only to find that had they known about a particular "thank god" hold between the last pro in the crack and the top, they'd have easily finished it clean. SOOOO...if you are up there worried at the top of the crack....GO FOR IT....I'm just sayin'
