Headed up to Rutland VT this weekend anyone want to meet up a Deers Leap?

Not particularly for climbing, but I might be free most of the day Saturday. Does anyone have anything to recommend to check out. Bouldering would be fine as I'll be with my non climber wife most likely. Or if your willing to buddy up I might be interested in TR or doing some Trad following. I have a trad rack collected but haven't had the time to get out and use it....yay responsibilities. None the less I boulder approx v3-4, TR 5.11 project 5.12, lead climb 5.9 project 5.10 indoors.

I was already poking around and found deer leap (which looks very interesting) and a few boulders.

Deer leap is very close to rutland. Cleanest most solid rock in VT not super busy but there might be somone up there that you could bum a belay from. I have a wilderness first aid course that day.

That's a good point maybe I'll just pack some of my gear and go up there and see what happens.

Last time I did something like this was in Maine, we (my wife and 7yo daughter) went bouldering at Bradbury state park. And it was probably one of the best outdoor sessions I've ever had. Hiked out to the Boulder in the first shot with the worst directions ever and 10 mins later 3 kids from high school come through the woods that had spent 2hrs looking for the Boulder. We ended up all climbing together and it ended up being a pretty awesome time.

The approach to all the climbs at the upper part of the cliff, main wall are by a 4th class scramble straight up to the cliff trying to stay on the trail. the actual Deer leap overlook hikeing trail is an easy .9 mile affair that put you out on the top of Top rock. an easy scramble down just to the south east of the rock outcrop gets you on a trail that heads west 100ft to the top of the main wall. you can find TR anchors from here. the trail skirts the west edge of the cliff and hooks arround to the base of the cliff. Most of the climbs here are great well protected leads.

I'm very interested in checking it out, hopefully someone chimes in willing for me to be their third wheel. Im not sure about hiking out there and no one be climbing, that's a shit load of walking solo with alot of gear. Nor am I particularly comfortable hiking solo in a unfamiliar area.

.9 miles = less than a mile. its a super easy fast hike unless you use the climbers 4th class approach trail which is so short it is not a hike ;)

Check out the DEKD Boulders in Killington if you don't find a partner. They're just off the AT and not too much further from Rutvegas than Deer Leap.

I might grab the pad and keep it in mind as a backup plan, I think I'm just going to head up bare bones. Harness, belay device, chalkbag, shoes and the pad as backup if no one comes through.

And you guys really call it Rutvegas huh? A friend of mine said that, but I didn't believe him.

Got into Rutvegas a few hours ago.... I get it.

you could swing by the gym in vegas and see if you can scrape up a paretner. i never had much luck with that though... Dooood, were working this sick proj in the bouldering cave.....

Woke up, ate breakfast and then walked out into the parking lot to check the trailer we towed up and someone tried to cut the lock last night.....epic

Ended up hiking up and running into a few couples climbing. I was able to bum a few belays from them (in trade of belays of course) . Sent the center crack first go and I believe it's called the monkey climb. Glad to be part of this community and be able to drive 4 hours through 3 states and still find someone to climb with.

rutland is a pretty tough town these days :(
