My wife and I are driving to New York (Albany) from Denver next week, to see her fam. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a cool spot to camp somewhere in-between Omaha and Albany... Thinking like, South Lake Erie or something around there. That part of the country is so foreign to me. We won't have a ton of time to explore, unfortunately, just to be able to stay somewhere cheap and somewhat unique in the Midwest is our goal. I would like to not stray too far away from the main artery of I-80. An email with any suggestions from one climber to another is much appreciated. Cheers. (We have a dog, so no NP's)

East Harbor State Park has a nice campground, walking distance to Erie, Maumee Bay (but not sure about camping) has a beautiful lodge and great golf course. if you have an extra day, taking the ferry to South bass Island (Put In Bay) is a cool island to spend some time.
