Headed down in the morning but not crazy early- has it been full on Saturday nights or is it late enough season that most folks are day tripping?

extra credit: where do you camp when the bank and sand gulch are full?

my buddy and I went up 2 weeks before thanksgiving on saturday and both campsites were full. We ended up crashing at his friend's house in C. Springs but that wont always be an option :\

When the campgrounds are full go up to Oil Well Flats. Coming from Canon it is a few hundred feet past the bridge going over 4 mile creek. It's primarily a MTB area these days but has great camping options.

I went a couple weeks ago, and everything was completely packed. We turned our weekend trip into a day trip rather than deal with it.

So, we had no issue rolling in Saturday at 1030 and tossing up a tent quick before climbing. Then again we got snowed on climbing Saturday so maybe the masses had better weather beta than we did...you can camp at the menses wall circle but it's not a real site, so it may be bandit style only. Feel free to correct me if camping in that lot is a no no.

That lot and areas past the turnoff are all fair game. The thing you have to understand about Shelf is that it is not patrolled frequently. In fact, in the years that I have been going there I have yet to see a park official collecting the money or doing anything. You can do what you want as long as you clean up the site and return it to good condition.

+1 Generally a nice option if the campground scene is totally nuts (holiday weekends, etc.) We've had no issues camping and leaving camp in place all weekend in this area. Map.

any chance that any of you would be interested in heading out to shelf this weekend?

I'm looking to get out there from boulder. I'll lead up to 11b but would be up for top roping anything up to 12b.

Boots onna ground beta: Me 'n' the she were up there this past weekend (Dec 4,5,6). There were only two other parties camping at The Banks Friday night. By Sat night more had moved in, but there were still a few open spaces on the colder, snowier, northern side of things.

Also, to spread the word, we found a guidebook 'n' some gloves over the weekend. Check it out on L&F to claim 'em...

I need to get back asap, this past weekend was a tease...holding out for next weekend. Saturday sounds like a gym day.
