hammer holster?

Besides using a harness gear loop, are there any good options for a hammer holster? I'd like to have an old school hammer holster I could put on a chalk bag belt for when I'm bolting. I've tried a couple of big box hardware stores and haven't found anything. Suggestions?

Misty Mountain makes a soft ice tool/hammer holster. I sewed a tab onto my harness between the 2 gear loops where I could attach the holster without it actually interfering with the gear loops. It's so low-profile that it stays on all the time.

I just tied some cord to the handle of my hammer and the other end to a biner that I clip to a gear loop. I just let it dangle. If I'm using it and drop it, it is still attached to me. Works well for me.

I've got an old leather one that I prefer, but have used plastic ice tool holders for hammers too.

I made one once from a couple pieces of 1.5 inch wide flat nylon webbing (from the waist belt of an old frame pack). Easy enough if you can sew at all. Or even just staple it together. One piece makes a loop, then sew/staple it to the other piece. Cut two slots for the chalk bag belt to pass thru. Done! You could use heavy canvas, leather, maybe flexible plastic in lieu of the webbing.

Thanks for the suggestions.

NB, I didn't know Misty made one, that's just what I'm looking for, thanks!

I've tried the sling thing and want something that will (hopefully) prevent me getting knocked in the head by the hammer if I take a fall.

The old hard plastic ones are nice, I had one of those years back but it's gone and I can't find one for sale anywhere.

If I had to, I could sew a little by hand but I don't have the patience for it.

RadDawg,

Looking at your misty link just reminded me of a problem I had when attaching the holder around the harness (versus to sewn on a tab). When it was attached to the harness around main waist belt it would hang below the waist belt. This caused it to snag the handle when I would remove it one-handed (as is bolting from stances -- Cashiers...). When I attached it to the tab on the waist belt, it was more centered behind the holster, thus reducing the tendency to snag during my -- often times -- frantic removal. Hope this helps.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
