Hagfels

Description

A quiet, shaded and well-featured yet overgrown area. The routes here are all pretty moderate, with one UIAA 8- (Felsakrobat). It doesn't really matter when you come here, you'll probably have the whole place to yourself. Also, for those of you with children, this area is pretty safe for them to run around in. It's in a nice forest (the climbs stay shady throughout the day and are facing north-east) that is very hilly or anything. However, the freeway is about 500m away, so you can hear some traffic.
The name of this crag directly translates to "Hedge Cliff".

Getting There

From Nürnberg, take the A6 east towards Amberg. Take the Lauterhofen (and Schwend) exit and head right. Take the next right (in Schwenderöd) towards Frechetsfeld and drive under the Autobahn. 700m after doing so is a road on your left to Alfeld. Take this road and park on the left after 300m.
Walk down the roughly paved road that divides the forest from the fields for 400m and then take the overgrown forest road on the left at the edge of the forest. After 80m the road heads left into the woods, and after about 120m the path forks. Head left and you'll reach the beginning of the crag after about 60m. The first route reached is Monaco Franze on the far right.

Keltenpfad 5.7  International : Europe : ... : Hagfels
A decent moderate that was a little damp. Climb up the somewhat delicate slab to clip the first bolt. Continue up on the right to the next bolt and then to a sling. Head left and up to the next bolt and reach high for a big jug to pull up to get to the sling. From here continue up to the stance where you can clip the last bolt and then up a juggy section to the anchor. The name means Keltic Path and probably has something to do with how green the route is....[more]   Browse More Classics in International
