I was at Wilson's around Nov/Dec of last year and one of the workers was mentioning a guide book coming out for Pine Creek by Tai Devore this coming spring. Any updates regarding this?

Looking forward to it. Support these route developers by giving them money for bolts then buy Tai's guidebook when it comes out.

You could probably call or email Wilson's Eastside to find out more. Tai works there. In the meantime, there is a thick binder at the checkout desk in the shop that has some of his notes in it and is open to the public to look though and make photo copies. Edit: I did not see the facebook update page linked above.

I think the binder is gone, the book is really close and all Tai does is dither and dather (and put up more and more great routes). Go bro, go!! But do go in and talk to Tai, he is open, friendly, a virtual font of knowledge. ANd then please, please, go climb in the gorge. Or the happeeze, or ANYWHERE BUT PCC!

Can anyone give me details on the campsites near Pine Creek. I remember seeing some sites on the left side of the road. I forgot to head down there to see what they are about. 1st come 1st serve? Do they have tables and so forth. thanks

In Pine Creek... head up from 395 for 6 miles. Just past where the power lines cross the road there is the first groups of pine trees (not big enough to call a forest). Turn left here. Dirt, low clearance cars are OK. This is the road opposite the turn for Pratt's. Not developed, no tables, no water. There are fire rings. AND MAKE SURE you have a California Fire permit, free online or at forest service ranger stations. They patrol, really. And October-April, it stays really cold in the camp, no sun. hard to get it going...brrrrr, but really nice to walk 5 min. and climb.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is for end of May/memorial day weekend trip. I think I can get about 7 days off so its either here or Maple canyon. Still a toss up where I want to go. There a few sites in that wooded area?

If you mean the wooded area in PCC, there's room for....i would say 8 parties? But there is also (not as scenic) camping all along the road, you would have no prob finding a spot. Just don't tell anyone ;)

No worries...our little secret along with anyone else that reads these forums. Even then they probably would just go to Owens river gorge

I talked to Tai on Sunday. He said that it is looking like it will be done around winter time. Interpret this how you wish. The binder is still available for browsing at Wilson's.

Pack it in and pack it out. The last time I was there there was so much shit buried and unburied next to the river it was disgusting. There is no toilet. Be prepared to stash your food away from the campsite as well and or have bear proof containers
