Figuring out the mantle at the start of Great Port...

Add Photo  Add Comment    Printer View

Description

The hardest move (maybe 5.9+) is at the start: a mantle to get stood on a ledge 8' off the ground - a short, well-protected hard move so HVS 5b in UK grades. After that bridge up the steep groove, lots of good holds and runners that you can't see from below (5a or 5.8+).

Location

Great Portland is the obvious groove right of Bond Street and left of the main deep corner (The Mall).

Protection

Very well protected by nuts and cams

A very difficult start (protected by a good wire) leads to DELICIOUS climbing above.

"What are you yelling about? Are you OK? Did you get something stuck?" Mo yells up to me. "I'm just having soo much fun!!" I reply!
