Hey guys! So I'm taking the AMGA SPI course this coming weekend and am required to bring a 30m static rope. In all my years of climbing I've never had to be in the market for one. Anyone have any particular brands they like better than others? I also don't have time to order one from somewhere. I've been looking at the Bluewater assault static from REI? Think it would be a good rope for my money?

Thanks everyone!

The Bluewater will work great. 11/16 should be the size your looking for. I've had good good experiences with Monster statics. Have a great course!

I have a two 50 foot sections of bluewater static, used in good condition if you don't want to buy new.

Coffee after freezing our asses off near James Peak.

I've never really been able to tell the difference between static rope brands, but PMI was another one I have owned. I think the one I have is that brand.

PMI is descent general static rope. In my experience it does not have a durable sheath that can handle lots of abuse. Maybe the model I had was not meant for heavy use.

Lichen head. Me, with my usual weatherbeaten, lichen covered look scrubbing a new route.

I really like the 11.2 mm BlueWater II +Plus Static Rope. I use it all the time for cleaning and bolting routes. They are heavy, especially 250-300 ft of it, but it wears like iron and I feel much more secure rapping in single strand to clean with it. This is the gold one with the blue thread running through it. I also like that it is very distinguishable from dynamic ropes, unlike some other statics and the color blends in if I have to leave it hanging for a while. I have had ones that I rapped, jugged and cleaned heavely with, basically having them hanging off a cliff in various spots all year in the rain, snow and sun, and they got a little stiff, but were still bomber. The creaking sound like an old ship, as I rapped down with my grigri the second year, was a little unnerving though, lol.
