I'm interested in hiking the barr trail in january. My question is would any of you recommend doing this alone or should i really have a partner. I really would like to try and do this but want to be smart and safe about it also and currently no one ive asked seems interested in trying it with me they think im crazy.

open to any suggestions or insight

thanks
Mike

Me at anchors of some crazy hard route on Cash Wall

Usually there are enough people up and down the trail that if something were to happen to you, someone would notice. Weekends more so than weekdays of course. A partner is never a bad thing though.

Alpine toothpick.

Get ready for some DEEP snow. I was up at Barr Camp(10,200') last Thursday, and the snow was above my knees in many places. I encountered a fellow that spent the night in the A-frame(11,500'), and he said the snow was "crotch deep". Get ready for some pain, and I hope your in good shape, because this is no easy undertaking. Roughly 28 miles round trip from Manitou Springs to the summit, and back.
EDIT: I notice that your a new user, welcome. However, you will find more information, and up to date conditions on www.14ers.com. Good Luck!
