Splitter Jams on the Israel/Palestine Security Wall.

Happy Independence day! I'm grateful to live in this country and in a place like Colorado!

Heading to Eldo with a buddy and my 12-yr old son. We'll shoot for a moderate classic like Rewritten, Swanson Arete, or maybe Gambit. I have a theory: most vacationers aren't climbing on the Fourth, and most locals assume the classics will be a mob scene and stay away.

We'll see how it plays. What's up on your Fourth?!

Happy Fourth to all! : )

We plan on heading to the Gun Show today to check out some pieces, and hope to find some .38 ammo. They've been completely out of .38 ammo here in Vegas! You know, the whole Obama scare, and all. I also need to look for a new knife; I lost the one I had for climbing, and desert/fishing excursions, and what not. Then I'll spend the rest of the Fourth at work. We both get off close to midnight so we'll probably sit on the roof tonight, toast a drink and catch some fireworks still being shot off throughout the city, and possibly on the strip, although it kind of sucks because last year the fire department banned fireworks from the roof tops of the casinos, I believe it was due to the Monte Carlo fire in 2007; only the tops of the works from the strip are visible from the homes roof now. It used to be a spectacular air show of colorful explosions, easily seen from all over the city when the pyro technicians shot from the roof.

Sunday, after work, my girlfriends, and I are having a belated Fourth celebration (does that count?); we're going out to a lounge to listen to some live music, and hang out at midnight. A friend wants me to try the jello shots at Planet Hollywood, but who knows where we'll end up. It'll be girls' night out on the town.

Viva Las Vegas!

No more of this roof top stuff, fellas...

MY LIFE

Shawn, I hope your climbing goes well I really love those west side of Redgarden wall routes I aspire to one day getting back to do all the moderate CLASSICS before I to old an decrepit.
I'm going to celebrate my independence but First I need to do a bit of work in the sail loft, then I'm going to try to surf IF the great swell we have been having is still around today. Otherwise I'll windsurf,Then a bit of party after, WOW!, that sounds like a normal day around here!

This morning I road my bike from my house to the top of Mt Evans & back. 89.6 miles round trip, ~11,000 vertical feet of "climbing", 5hr, 51min. Now I'm vegging out to Return of the Jedi.

Learned how to slalom ski. My family and I spent the morning at the lake and the kids had a super time.

Hmmm... my day sounds like a typical Vegas day too, come to think of it. Well, during the work week, anyway.

Addendum: I know, I know, not climbing related, boring. Well, maybe a little climbing related. : )

Anyway, the Gun Show was awesome. I bought 2 more survival books, a vintage, folding military shovel that can also be used as an ax (and the high energy man even showed me another crafty way, or two it can be used as a weapon, "Okay, I've seen enough, I'll take it."), and the shovel can be utilized as a seat, super cool; I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too. I found a high quality, full tang, made in Oklahoma survival knife that I was looking for. We bought out the last of the .38 ammo they had at the show to celebrate our independence. Woohoo! And...oh, yeah, I picked up Swarovski Crystal sterling butterfly earrings for a friend who is going through a tough time, a necklace for myself, and buffalo, and elk jerky, yummy. On our way home we ate at a local small business restaurant we haven't tried near home, and I had the best shrimp fajitas. We laughed, woops, actually I was the only one that laughed at a religious billboard on the way home that threatened, "WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, GOD KNOWS!" and some other obscenities. They spent the collections in the hat, on that? Whatever.

Life as usual in Sin City.

Tour d'Platte; simul-climbed Fractured Fairytales, stretched the rope out to combine Acid Rock into 2 pitches, and then simul-climbed Velcro wall. We got on the summit of Sheep Rock by 11:30 AM. I think we left the car at 8:00 AM or so. So, not such a bad time for covering that much stone. Happy 4th to everyone. Hope you got out on something good today. The ride up Mount Evans sounds awesome!

Normally I expose the kids to civil disobedience as the idiots who run the city of Centennial have outlawed anything that you can light, but with all this rain looks like those losers win this round. Around where I live, about half of the residents go forth and commence breaking the law with fireworks. Which demonstrates 2 important realities:

  • Government will always grow to the point of being intrusive if we let it
  • The spirit on which this country is founded is re-affirmed every 4th of July in communities where the safety nazis pass laws that create a class of annual law-breakers.

Vive La Revolution!

And if I don't get out tomorrow my head will explode, it has been a long few weeks for me.

Seemed like 4th of July CG might be appropriate so I stomped up South Arapaho Pk. Summit cloud left just before I got there.

What a cutie! But where's her pistol; isn't it part of the dress code in Wyoming?

Cursed the weather guessers here in the Northeast for predicting mostly sunny at sundown yesterday and yet when I woke up this am it there was a solid deck of dark grey clouds about 1000' and rain, sprinkles and more rain. Hope to get out climbing tomorrow however.

My wife and I did Wind Ridge on the Wind Tower in Eldo (including the third pitch). We were back to the car at 1:00 and had a fantastic morning.

Then the typical fireworks out front with some of the neighbors - it was pretty good. The 300 shot Saturn Missile was awesome!

Shoot, no fireworks for me; working a double shift, but hope some of y'all set sparks flying!

In the 4th of July celebration aftermath I'm sure quite a few tourists, and locals will be waking up in Vegas

.

Nite all, and happy climbing in, and out of bed, and on the rocks!

Kayaked through Black Canyon on the Colorado River. Was a really great trip except that sometimes it felt like a four-lane highway with all the powerboats.

I took the kids to Independence day wall at 7 AM where my son (11 yo) did ,of course, Independence day. Then down to Anarchy wall where he did Power Trip (with one or two falls) then went home to cook and went to my buddy's house and had refreshing adult sodas and blew up a bunch of stuff. Shawn, are you looking for other kids to climb with your son? We get out (mostly to Clear Creek) a few times a week and my son would love to have another kid to climb with. I don't climb myself but have become the designated climber taxi and belay slave. LMK if you want to get something together. We are located in ubersuburban Highlands Ranch.
