I had a run-in with these fellows this weekend, i just wanted to talk climbing with them and they acted elitist. black diamond as a company sucks, their reps are assholes and their products are overpriced. the atc sport is the biggest joke of a product ever. they can get away with charging 10 dollars more for a product because of their logo and name.

I wouldn't lump them all together. I know the rep in the Minnesota area (James) and he is a stand up guy. Does lots for the climbing community (new routing, cleanups, provides raffles and swag).

They must have been from Boulder, eh?

It's too bad any person that works for BD would act this way, but I can say I've had all positive experiences with them. On that note I've also heard some rumors of "elitism" with those guys. There are some bad apples somewhere. Eventually, that type of person will fire themselves.

Judging from the local jammon laramie crowds posts on this site.

It seems like a bad idea to jump to such a conclussion after one encounter but you have your right to an opinion. I think that they have made some silly products over the years for sure but overall I have to say that I have been very happy with most their products and customer service.

i met a bd rep in minnesota on palisade head and the guy was rad. chatted with him a bit and he lined me out on a few great climbs. a really nice down to earth dude.

the people at BD are awesome and overall they make great products. judging from the number of Camalot users they must be doing something right.

I'm sure there are some lemons just as in any company, but if you don't like their products go buy something else.

The midwest rep is Jame (Loverage?) and he's cool.

I personally have never had a bad experience with a BD employee. Our Rep. for the western slope off CO is awesome. Come on who doesn't like Jack Tackle!

With a user name like webejammon one would think that you would be pretty mellow - and just let it slide...instead you spray negativity all over the project and blast the company that planted the seed of American climbing...but I guess BD deserves that since a couple of dudes didn't want to be bothered. My guess is that maybe a bit of localism, ego, and chest thumping slipped out as you talked at them about climbing. They probably werent super impressed and that pissed you off.

The BD guys I have met are some of the finest folks in the industry.

I've worked in the "industry" (wholesale, front room, net...)for years and yes some of the reps are real jerks. However, Reps get paid based on sales... So, if a rep is a jerk then they won't be a rep very long.

Most reps I know are great.


As for the shots against BD gear and price,go for it, buy from whoever floats your boat.

I know a lot of those guys and they'd give you the shirt off their back.

I'd love to see you say that crap to their faces.

i have to agree the bd reps from Salt lake are twats. frat boys probably with some kind of useless outdoor rec. degree . but they are one step higher one the list of people who suck then FS climbing rangers

I thought there was a problem with the wires on my red C3 camelot right after i got it so I sent it back to BD. It was the only C3 i had ever owned, and the only C3 I'd ever seen at that point. Basically, there ended up not really being a problem and it was my own stupid fault. I felt like an idiot.

The guy with whom i spoke and exchanged e-mails was super cool and not elitist at all. He didn't even call me a dumb ass like he should have. He even over nighted my perfectly functional cam back to me at no charge. I was very impressed with their service and continue to be impressed with their products.

Webejammon: I've seen several of your comments including your boulder hating rant that was removed from the Eldo FHRC bulletin. Is there anything you do like outside of WY? You might not be elitist, but you certainly seem like a dick head. While we're at it, taking shots at people anonymously is pretty spineless. Use your real name if your going launch a public assault on people you don't know.

Why don't you just take your whinning and deal with your complaints by complaining to the BD office, IF they are even legit which I doubt.
There is enough negativity floating around Mtnproject without you just "sounding off" because you "wittle feelings were hurt". The only "attitude" here is yours.....Grow up!

sounds like most of you would suck a bd reps dick for gear. webe is just telling it who he sees it. if you have never noticed reps are only nice to you to sell gear. a large amount of people from boulder run there mouth, yard sell there gear at the base of classic routes all over the west, have the attitude they have more of a right to be there then you because they can drop some names. your lucky or blind
