The amazing 30 meter crack on pitch seven of Sagit...

Description

Home to a couple of the Grimsel classics is a large, west-facing wall below the Raterichsbodensee.

It gets sun primarily in the afternoon. With its short approach and limited itinerary, one is rarely alone.

The rock is fairly typical for the Grimsel region (i.e., smooth granite), but the two classic routes here, Sagittarius and Chopper, also offer some nice crack and corner climbing.

Getting There

Park at the large parking space at the Chuenzentennlen bus stop. Follow the clear trail up towards the wall.

Sagittarius 5.10b/c  International : Europe : ... : Gelmerfluh
A modern line, offering varied climbing including slabs, corners, cracks and face climbing.Although long, with the perfect bolting it can be climbing fairly quickly. The highlight of the route is the splitter 30 meter crack in the seventh pitch (6a+). The crux in the eigth pitch /(6b) is a delicate slab traverse underneath and around a small roof right at the start of the pitch. It can easily be aided if necessary. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
