Hello to the climbing community in the Colorado Front Range,

While fracking might not be greatly impacting climbing areas directly, as climbers we are all aware of the importance of conservation in general.

Fracking is a direct threat to our environmental quality in the Colorado Front Range, whether you are aware of it or not. So I am urging you to consider coming to the biggest anti-fracking event to date that will take place at 3-7pm Tuesday, Oct 23, in Denver's Civic Park: Frack Free Colorado !

You can learn a lot about fracking from just that link. This will be a national scale event, with musician Jakob Dylan, among others, with speakers like Darryl Hannah and Muriel Hemingway, among others, and sponsors like Sierra Club, Patagonia, Black Diamond, Prana, New Belgium, etc.

Civic Park is the big open park between the Denver Art Museum, the state capital and Denver City Hall. Take the bus! Hope to see you there....

My opinion, if you hate fracking and energy development, you stop using the internet, quit heating your house, stop driving your car and don't buy anything that uses plastics or any other organic chemical. Either become self sustaining and stop using technolgy, or help this (fracking) technology move forward.

I say frack the fuck outta everywhere and tell the mid east to go eat rotten lady shit!

This attitude is based on an irrational opposition to fraccing combined with an utter lack of understanding of the technical facts and history. The website cited is filled with distortions, half truths and misrepresentations.

As an evinronmental engineer, I urge people to educate themselves on the issue before blindly participating in an anti-fracking event such as this.

Can a mod please lock this thread? There's another fracking thread that turned into a discussion of individual views: mountainproject.com/v/frack…

This guy just wanted to announce an event. Can we please keep it that way?

+1

Darryl Hannah and Muriel Hemingway as keynote speakers - they sure are some real intellectual heavyweights. Sad to see New Belgium sponsoring something like this - easy marketing for them but sad to see them put their name behind such nonsense.

Edit to add: OP is encouraging people to attend the event by taking the bus - just FYI, some buses in RTD's fleet are powered by natural gas. Better make sure you don't show up getting off one of those buses.

Damn. I thought this was going to be a co-ed Viper pilot drink-off orgy and poker run

Sorry Nick, this seems nothing more than marketing & publicity name-dropping deal without much in the way of science.

I don't doubt that at all. I just think if people want to "discuss" their general thoughts on fracking, they should turn to this thread (which I thought was pretty substantive) or start another.

EDITED to say my original post was addressing kneejerk reactionary drivel a la RandyW, not the folks who are discussing the event specifically.

Yes, a free thinking American that doesn't believe media hype. Educate yourself about this stuff, and don't listen to Darryl Hannah. Many people in this country act like energy companies run around w/o check and that's the furthest thing from the truth. Your ipad using, car driving, Kardashian watching, liberal hate america ass should look in the mirror and hate yourself. If you posted on this thread, you should probably support energy development since you like using energy... period.

This country really could use to stop being so damn hypocrytical about energy development. We use exponentially more energy per capita than any other devloped nation.

What the frack!?!
My only contention with fracking is the amount of water they use. Something that could be dealt with by developing an infrastucture using sea water.
But locking this thread so we don't hurt enviroguy's feelings is typical liberal bullshit of shutting off debate through force..
