| Ben - you may try those tri-cams , I do not EVER leave the ground without those same two pieces of gear. They will fit places that NO other gear will. Examples....... A one or two finger pocket , ( in the camming mode)......... a shallow horz. slot ......... an odd shape slot that a wire won't quite set in cleanly...... they set like a wire-straight, with sling out the bottom - they set at least 2 ways as a camming device designed to cam when loaded -with sling over the top of the cam -or the sling coming from under. it depends which side you place the nub on. once you use them ( where nothing else on your rack would fit ) you will really like having them. | |

| I used to think tricams were just a pain, but now I love them. They really do fit where other pro won't. I could have used one recently and had left it behind...left me thinking the same thing, "don't leave ground without them". I'd like a couple more that size, but don't want to mess with shipping...and I'm a little more comfortable buying pro fresh from the store!
Someone will likely bite though!

| Trust me, don't get rid of them. You will learn to love them. I actually have two pinkies on my rack. | |

| Agreed. I carry doubles of pink and red on pretty much every route I climb, even if I get made fun of by most people I climb with. They are great at belays (save the cams for during the pitch), and much less painful to the wallet to leave behind if you have to bail off something. I've had my butt saved a few times by that pink guy. | |

| Ode to a Pink Tricam
Oh Pink's the one I love to place when I'm alone way up in space on some exposed and airy face.
They sink where other gear won't go. When all you've got is manky pro, This tricam saves your butt from woe.
But it's often hard to get them out; They make your second moan and shout And wave his nut tool 'round about
But that's why you're the one on lead Your problems are a different breed As long as someone does the deed...
"Oh quit your whimpering," you rumble, "And get it out or there'll be trouble" "Get to work now, on the double!"
Although it sometimes takes a while, They do come out with vim and guile, (or chiselling and curses vile.)
Pink will do what all the rest. Won't do when they're put to the test. Oh pink tricams are just the best!

| FYI:
Tricams 0.125 & 0.25
No more filing and tweaking your tricams to wiggle them into tiny fissures. For 2008, C.A.M.P. introduces two new sizes of Tricams to fit cracks that are too small for the infamous Pinky.
Specs - Ref. 923.0125/.025 - Active Strength: .125 4 kN, .25 7 kN - Passive Strength: .125 2 kN, .25 5 kN - Range: .125 10-15mm, .25 13.5-20.5mm - Color(s): White and Black - Certifications: UIAA, CE

| Tri-Cams, a brilliant LOWE development, are the single most versatile and creative protection ever devised and developed! They can securely go virtually anywhere. And as has been previously posted they go securely where nothing else can. All they really require, whether placing or removing, is thought. But like students no longer needing to learn math when hand held calculators are allowed in class modern climbers can just plug and go. In some ways the fine art of chockcraft is a dead language. | |

| I just used my meager REI dividend to order one of the new blacks, can't wait to get it! There's been many times I've wished I had one smaller than pink, now my wish will come true.

it's also only as strong as the rock it's set in. CD, you could think of it as contributing to a dynamic (gear)team effort in keeping your boodie off the ground ~(:

| Kirra,
Good point!
I don't carry very many racks without Tricams, however be aware that the single point of the Tricam can break the rock if placed too close to the outside of the crack.

| I love the pink, truly my favorite piece on the rack, and now I've been very impressed with the black, 4 KN is plenty strong just use a screamer or the like, no worries mates.
Here is my little pinky haiku
When I'm runnin out worried I'll fall? need a drink? I rely on pink
the zero point five she's the one I can count on to keep me alive
banged-out ol' pin scar cutler or moenkopi she's the girl for me
now my world's askew pink's not the king of the land? black and white are new . . .
. . . kids out of the gate endless chossibilities and FAs await!
