| Hey y'all, I'm in the process of starting a little enterprise to create dog toys out of retired climbing ropes. At this point I need as many retired ropes as I can get my hands on to make product so that I may work towards finding a venue to sell these toys at. A portion of the proceeds from all my sales will be donated to area dog shelters. If you have a used rope that you no longer climb on PLEASE contact me so that I can pick it up from you. You'll be supporting a great cause! Thanks! Oh, just so you know, I live about 20 minutes from Boulder. So please only contact me if you live in the Boulder area as I cannot travel very far. I would however be willing to accept donations via the mail. Thanks. | FLAG |

| Matt Swartz! Fancy seeing you here. I've got two ropes, but don't live anywhere near Boulder... you should come climb some cracks in Oregon and I'll pass them along. | FLAG |

| Thanks for the replies! I've gotten 3 ropes so far, but I'll need more. I am hopefully going to be applying for non-profit status in the near future for my dog toy company - Dirtbag Dog Toys. Amir - I'll PM you, hope to get those ropes soon! Max - I'd be happy to come to Oregon, not sure when I'll get some free time, but would love to. Once I raise some money I'd be happy to pay shipping on those ropes! I hope to have some tshirts at some point soon as an incentive for those that donate more then 1 rope. Keep in touch man! Martha - As a cat owner I know that smell...not that I'd want to turn down a donation, perhaps a quick wash could help? Get in touch if you are willing to meet up to make a donation, thanks! | FLAG |

| I work at the Boulder Rock Club. We recycle all our used ropes, either through Sterling Rope's Rope Redemption Program or to locals who have a good cause. Contact me soon as we currently have a large quantity of retired ropes.

| Matt,
Good to meet you this morning for the rope exchange. Looks like you're getting plenty of action here. One option you might look into is places like REI. I know they take ropes on return but obviously don't resell them. I'm told they chop them up and throw them out. If you could get them to chop into 12' lengths, you might have something.

| Matt - if you're okay with the donation of my "felinated" rope, it's yours! I will definitely give it a wash - there's some enzymatic cleaner available for just this purpose and since it's not going to be used as a climbing rope anymore what happens to the sheath/core won't matter either. We'll be in touch - I could always plan a hike in the IPW and meet you somewhere near your world. No hurry, either. Currently it's sitting in the trunk of my car airing out. Not working too well, either. ;-> | FLAG |

| I used to tie up old ropes into dog toys until i realized that training your dog to chew on climbing ropes is a bad idea.
BUT, this is a great idea for non-climber's dogs. And Kudos for reusing.

| Evan - a good point, it was brought up to me by someone who was donating a rope. I had two thoughts, 1: a climbing rope should probably not be left somewhere that your dog would be able to chew it up and 2: I should offer more then just toys - so now I'm making leashes too. Thanks for the concern though, its a valid one and should be considered. | FLAG |
